The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen exists to promote and protect the rights, interests, and safety of its members through solidarity, aggressive representation, and education.

Vision

It is the vision of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen to be at the forefront of the labor movement as the result of grassroots involvement, expanding membership, and a cohesiveness among the engineer and trainman crafts and with other unions.

It will be well known for its excellence in education, communication,political action, and strategic planning. It will be a democratic organization with deeply held values and ideals that advance the working conditions, wages, benefits, job security, and qualityof life for its present and future members and their families.

2006 Bylaws

THE PURPOSE OF THIS ORGANIZATION SHALL BE TO COMBINE THE INTERESTS OF LOCOMOTIVE ENGINEERS OR OTHER PERSONS IN RAILWAY SERVICE WHO ARE NOW, OR MAY HEREAFTER BECOME ELIGIBLE TO MEMBERSHIP IN THIS ORGANIZATION, ELEVATE THEIR SOCIAL, MORAL AND INTELLECTUAL STANDING, GUARD THEIR FINANCIAL INTERESTS, AND PROVIDE THEIR GENERAL WELFARE AND SAFETY; ITS CARDINAL PRINCIPLES – SOBRIETY, TRUTH, JUSTICE AND MORALITY.

THE TRUE PRINCIPLES OF THE BROTHERHOOD OF MAN AND THE FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES OF THE ORDER – “DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD THEY SHOULD DO UNTO YOU” – AND SO FULFILL THE LAW; AND IN HARMONY WITH THE DIVINE ADMONITION.

ALL DIVISIONS OF ALL LABOR ORGANIZATIONS SHOULD ABIDE BY AND PRACTICE THE ABOVE PRINCIPLES AND MAINTAIN ETHICS THAT EMANATE THE TRUE PRINCIPLES OF THE BROTHERHOOD OF MAN FOR ALL LABOR UNION MEMBERS. ALL MEMBERS OF ALL UNIONS HAVE THE RIGHT TO DEMAND A HIGH STANDARD OF THEIR UNION AND UNION LEADERS. ANY OTHER ACTION OF POOR ETHICS IS INTOLERABLE AND UNACCEPTABLE.
